Supporting Your Child with a Key Worker
NDIS recommends the use of a Key worker model for children with disabilities receiving early intervention services. We are fortunate at My Therapy Space that many of the key components of the Key worker model are how we have worked for over 20 years. We have always worked in a family centred practice model, where families are the ones who set the goals and decide how
best therapy will support their family. We are passionate about working alongside families, providing coaching and discussions about how we can incorporate activities into everyday life in order to meet each child’s developmental goals. We are here to listen to families and their worries, celebrate all the amazing changes, and empower parents with skills and knowledge that
they can best support their child to thrive. Having a dedicated key worker from your My Therapy Space team is an option that can be
offered and this could be discussed with each family during their “Individual family support plan”.
1) At My Therapy Space the “Key Worker” is a consistent point of contact with a family.
- The key worker will be the one to organise a goal setting session and review every 6 -12 months.
- They will plan with you to prioritise your best therapy service that suits your family
- They will liaise with any external people in your team eg: doctors, teachers, other therapists, hospital staff etc.
- They will support you through any transitions such as changing kindies, starting school or interacting with the NDIS.
- Your key worker can provide a range of information, advice and general guidance when ever it is requested.
- Some families will benefit from having one main point of contact that they can ask all the questions and get all the information from!
