Who we are

  • My Therapy Space began in 2001 as a single Speech Pathologist working on the Gold Coast.
  • In 2011 the practice was renamed “Communicate; Speech Pathology Gold Coast”.
  • In 2018 it became a multidisciplinary team and took the name My Therapy Space.
  • The practice is led by its co-founders and Directors, Trish Hull and Lisa Holyman, who have worked together since December 1999. Both are Speech Pathologists.
  • We work in a family-centred way: each family sets the goals they want for their child, using an “Individual Family Support Plan”. Goals are reviewed every 6-12 months.
  • Parents are always involved in sessions, especially for children under 8.
  • Our team has been building its skills in neurodiversity affirming practice since 2022.

How to get started

  1. Send a referral through our contact form, call 07 5559 9888, or come in and see reception. You do not need a letter from a GP. A GP, paediatrician or psychiatrist referral is only needed for a Medicare rebate.
  2. We send you an intake form about your child, what support they may need, and their strengths and interests.
  3. Our Directors read it and match your child with a therapist who suits their needs. Some families have an intake meeting with a Director first.
  4. Depending on waitlists, a first appointment can be as soon as the next day.

All children 0-18 years, with some support also available to young adults with disabilities.

No. You do not need a diagnosis or a referral to start therapy with us. Families can refer their child themselves. A GP, paediatrician or psychiatrist referral is only needed to claim a Medicare rebate.

Which services are at which clinic?

Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy and the Therapy Assistant Program are at both Burleigh Waters and Hope Island. Dietetics and Psychology are at Burleigh Waters and by telehealth.

Do you see NDIS clients?

Yes, if they are self-managed or plan-managed. We do not currently see NDIA-managed plans.

How long are sessions, and how often?

Shorter sessions are offered when they suit your child better. Most children come weekly, fortnightly or monthly, depending on their needs, family preferences and their therapist’s recommendations.

Do you offer after-school appointments?

Yes, although these are our most popular times and availability is limited. Many children come in the morning or leave school a little earlier.

Can two children from one family be booked at the same time?

Yes, where availability allows. Let reception know and we will try to coordinate their appointments.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes, for all our services.
